Bout of Books 20 – Day 6

Today the challenge is to talk about the character you love to hate!

When I was growing up that was definitely Miss Minchin from a Little Princess by Frances Hodgeson Burnett. A young girl, Sara Crewe, is a wealthy young girl who is doted on by her father and all that meet her. As her father must leave Europe to work on developing a diamond mine, she is left at a proper boarding school for ladies. However, when her fortunes change, the mean, rude, scheming Miss Minchin is not supportive or helpful to Sara. As a kid, I couldn’t believe an adult would be so jealous and vindictive over a child that was under her care! There’s also a hilarious scene with hysteria and lots of tea, so that’s also a plus.
